Meet the Maker: Nicole McCann, Principal Planner


Where do I begin?!  Exhale Events is a long time passion turned into a career. Ask my friends from high school - they’d tell you I’m doing exactly what I was meant to do.

I’m Nicole - a lover of food (anything Italian!), sunshine and my little family (hubby + two doodles). My background in events started as early as high school when I was on student council and the prom committee and then I started my professional career during college organizing corporate events - large scale fundraisers and corporate parties that ranged in budget size and scope. While those jobs fulfilled my planning bug with the occasional wedding in the mix, after 7 years in the corporate industry, I knew I wanted to insert some more creativity and light heartedness into my work.

After a few years of being out on the west coast for my husband’s military career, we finally came back to settle down in Pittsburgh. Once we were settled, it felt like a no brainer to take the leap and thus, Exhale Events was born! '

A few people have asked us, “why the name Exhale?” When it comes down to it,  it’s the vibe I want our clients to feel when they work with us; a stress free environment where they can breathe paired with the white glove service that all couples deserve. Weddings are a once in a lifetime journey, and as a bride who tried to do it all (my type A self couldn’t let go of control) I am here to tell you that wedding planners will make your day THAT much more enjoyable - seriously - I was barking orders for my own wedding from the makeup chair and if I could do it all over again I would hire a planner.


I believe the most important thing I want people to understand is the experience behind us so you know what you’re getting when you hire Team Exhale. My counterpart and I both spent years living out in San Diego and our style and fine art approach very much reflects that. My friends would tell you that I’m not afraid to speak my mind, which the benefit to my clients is that I will stick up for your wants and needs, because I am on your team for your wedding or event. It’s just that simple.

Behind the client meetings, venue walk throughs, or executing an event, I’m a big homebody and love nothing more than to be snuggled on the couch with blankets, a cup of tea and my pups. The Italian in me loves to cook and experiment with different recipes, and we make homemade pasta and biscotti weekly in our home. It’s something that my husband and I have come to love to do together, and forces us to put down our phones, computers and any other technology and just talk. As someone who doesn’t know how to shut off, it’s a nice forced shut down for a few hours away from my inbox and social media.

My love of the beach gets us back to San Diego a few times a year, or Myrtle Beach where my family spent all of my childhood summers. There’s something about the smell of salt water in the air, and when I step off the plane in other location, a sense of home washes over me. That feeling, that calmness is something I strive to provide all my clients.

Most importantly, I LOVE our clients - they are the reason I continue to do what I do - the long weekends and hours are so worth it to see their face at their reception, or to watch them join hands and repeat their wedding vows.
